SEPTEMBER 2024 TRAFFIC AND CO2 EMISSIONS
WIZZ AIR PASSENGER GROWTH STRONGEST IN YTD
Ticker: WIZZ
Wizz Air carried 5.76 million passengers during the month of September, up 3.9% year on year. Seat capacity was up 4.8% YoY, despite the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine-related groundings, resulting in a load factor of 91.7%, down 70bps on last year's 92.4%.
For Q2 F25, seat capacity was up 1.2% YoY to 19.11 million, while passenger numbers increased 1.1% YoY to 17.90 million.
During the month:
- Wizz Air announced the launch of its first routes to be flown by the airline's new Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range) aircraft. Daily London Gatwick-Jeddah and daily Milan Malpensa-Abu Dhabi services are due to commence next summer.
- Wizz Air's passenger growth rate of 3.9% YoY is the strongest recorded in the calendar year to date.
- While still one of the leading airlines in terms of lower emissions per passenger kilometer, September saw CO2/ RPK emission increase by 2.5% YoY, to 52.3 grams. This reflected the suboptimal fleet mix (older aircraft and lower gauge) due to the GTF engine-related grounding of Wizz Air's efficient A321neo fleet.
