Renewi invests millions in sustainable growth

In addition to efficiency, the new jetty will also increase safety

ATM, part of the leading waste-to-product company Renewi (LSE: RWI.L: Euronext Amsterdam: RWI.AS), announces that it is investing €7.8 million in the construction of a new jetty at its ATM site in Moerdijk in the Netherlands. This investment is an important step in the execution of Renewi's objective to strengthen ATM's position. The new jetty is part of regular maintenance investments and will increase efficiency, contributing to ATM's return on investment. The jetty will be   operational from November 2024.

Safer and more environmentally friendly solution

The new jetty, which is more than 100 metres long, has been designed to increase the efficiency of ATM's water operations. With the ability to dock up to six ships at the same time, the jetty can receive up to fifteen percent more ships per year. In addition to efficiency, the scaffold will also bring benefits in the areas of safety and sustainability. For example, a safer staircase that runs parallel to the ships ensures that employees no longer have to climb to get on board. Loading and unloading is optimised by the installation of six new electric loading arms.

Future-proof growth

In addition to the new jetty, ATM also commissioned an additional degassing installation this year. ATM is the only party in the Netherlands that operates a fixed degassing installation. Both investments are crucial steps in meeting the increasing demand for more innovative and sustainable solutions for shipping.

"Our priority within Renewi's strategy is to optimise our portfolio," says Bruno Bruins, Chief Strategy Officer at Renewi. "An important part of this is the further strengthening of ATM. These investments provide a strong foundation for growth in our water and soil cleaning business and we continue to explore opportunities for further optimisation in order to strengthen ATM's position," says Bruins.

Port of Moerdijk is increasingly putting itself on the map as a European seaport and hub for the chemical industry and international logistics. "As the Port of Moerdijk Authority, we applaud the commissioning of this new jetty," says CEO Paul Dirix. "More sustainable options for transport by water will help the Port of Moerdijk to contribute to the 'modal shift' and sustainability of logistics. Great to see that Renewi immediately seizes the opportunity to innovate in the process."

Circular materials

ATM is one of Europe's largest companies for the treatment of contaminated soil, wastewater and oily sludge and for the disposal of a wide range of hazardous wastes, such as packaged chemical waste. In addition, the company focuses on recycling used materials instead of permanently removing them from the chain through incineration or landfill. ATM's circular materials, such as sand, gravel and fillers, are used as an alternative to primary raw materials in concrete. As a result, the company plays an important role in helping to improve the living environment and is committed to resource conservation.
