Battle of the oligarchs: Controversial Ukrainian closing in on bid for UK oil and gas firm Regal Petroleum (RPT)

Bob Diamond faces revolt as his new bank Atlas Mara Limited (DI) (ATMA) loses its way

MIDAS SHARE TIPS: Britain’s largest power station owner Drax Group (DRX) can put the fizz into pints… and portfolios. Midas verdict: Hold. Putting the fizz back into pints isn’t ever going to be Drax’s raison d’etre but it’s an interesting side project for the power company and a handy diversifier, particularly at a time when the energy sector is under pressure from regulators.

MIDAS SHARE TIPS UPDATE: Time to cash in as Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS) is recovering. Midas verdict: Buy. Cautious investors are still steering clear of banks and that means share prices are low – RBS’s are a fraction of what they were before the financial crisis. If you believe the banks are finally on the brink of a turnaround, now may be a good time to get in ahead of the crowd.

MIDAS SHARE TIPS UPDATE: Play your cards right with Card Factory (CARD) for many happy returns. Midas verdict: Hold – it’s not time to panic yet. Card Factory’s update is no catastrophe but it does set the scene for a tough second half of the year. Despite all that, the group insists it is on course and aims to return a cash surplus to investors, who are to expect a special dividend of up to 10p this year. But some say it could be the last for a while.
