Powerhouse Energy secures first Japanese patent for waste-to-energy technology
( ) , a company focused on converting non-recyclable waste into low-carbon synthesis gas, announced a new patent grant in Japan for a "method and apparatus for the treatment of waste material". The patent was granted by the Japanese Patent Office on November 8, 2024.
The patent deals with technical aspects of
's production method for synthesis gas (syngas). Specifically, it protects 's control method for heating waste within its TCC system over several zones to optimise syngas production. The TCC refers to a main thermal chamber (or kiln) where the conversion of waste feedstock to syngas takes place. The patented control enables adjustment of the temperature profile in the TCC to achieve the optimal syngas composition. The Japanese patent is a significant milestone, marking the first
patent to be granted outside of Europe. Markets welcomed the news, sending shares 4% higher on November 11. is also advancing additional patent applications within the UK, Europe, and rest of the world.also reported ongoing discussions with several potential clients from a "diverse range of industries and sectors as well as geographies" seeking a solution for their waste and less reliance on virgin fossil fuels.
is progressing its new Technical Centre in Bridgend, which will become the company's new headquarters when finished. Installation and commissioning are targeted for mid-to-late Q4 2024. The facility’s feedstock testing unit, featuring the TCC, will be capable of converting 2.5 tonnes of waste per day into syngas. The Center should significantly accelerate 's pipeline.
Paul Emmitt, Chief Executive Officer of
, commenting on today's announcement: "I am delighted that this patent has been granted. This is the third patent we have been granted and provides significant protection for the technology that differentiates PHE from others in the waste-to-energy sector; whilst also being the first patent granted to us outside of the UK / Europe. I look forward to providing further updates in due course."Follow News & Updates from Powerhouse Energy:
