Powerhouse Energy (PHEFollow | PHE, a company focused on converting non-recyclable waste into low-carbon energy, issued a progress update on its new Technical Centre at Bridgend, Wales.

Powerhouse said that a the facility's thermal conversion chamber (TCC) kiln had been delivered in June, mechanically completed, and positioned to produce its required operational angle. The kiln is the centrepiece of the Centre's feedstock testing unit (FTU). Additionally, a gas clean-up system from VUM of Germany has been completed and placed in its final position within the facility.

Full geotechnical and topographical surveys have also been completed outside the facility, to allow for the safe placement of water and nitrogen storage tanks. This has enabled foundation designs to be completed, with civil engineering works set to begin on September 24, 2024. PHE targets commissioning of the Technical Centre in Q4 2024.

Paul Emmitt, CEO of PHE, commenting: "We are pleased with the consistent progress of the FTU build. Using our own in-house engineering capabilities and local suppliers means we can be flexible and efficient. We have no large outstanding items and can now fully concentrate on the mechanical completion in readiness for the control system and preparing the external area for civils for the tank deliveries."

Powerhouse (mktcap £53.1m) reports excellent progress on its new Technical Centre in Bridgend, which will become the company's new headquarters when finished. The final pieces of the FTU are currently in fabrication offsite and ready for installation. The target for the completion of the installation and commissioning work is mid-to-late Q4 2024.

Powerhouse recently reported a significant pipeline of projects in the UK and overseas where development should accelerate following completion of the Technical Centre. Furthermore, the recent acquisition of Engsolve should consolidate PHE's engineering capability and bring it fully in-house. Engsolve comes with a strong reputation of successfully delivering engineering services to the energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, waste, and safety sectors.

The process control system and panel for the Technical Centre are being produced by local company TAG Controls and Automation, which Engsolve previously used for its TrimTabs Carbon nano-tube project. The build of the process control system and panel is based upon PHE's specific functional design specification, developed by Engsolve.

The Technical Centre's FTU has a nameplate capacity to convert 2.5 tonnes of waste per day into Syngas, and is a reduced-size version of the proposed commercial process, with the capability to produce around 250kW of electrical energy, dependent upon feedstock, or approximately 200kg a day of hydrogen when the required separation process is installed. The FTU will initially be utilised for R&D and investor/customer demonstrations, after which Powerhouse will evaluate commercial opportunities.

Powerhouse is well-funded to pursue its newly redefined focus on licensing fees, royalties, and engineering services, with £4.34m in cash reported as of December 31, 2023.

PHE stock gained 6.25% on today's announcement.
